Maelstrom, 2014

The Butterfly effect has always intrigued me. It is a  chaos theory that suggests that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly’s wing can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world. The more I work with colors, I notice a similar kind of chaos in the making of art, how a stray stroke of the brush, textures, the riot of colors, finally make the larger picture, the piece of art complete.
Maelstrom from the Butterfly effect series is a mixed media piece which is heavily layered both in terms of the concept – of chaos & find order in chaos, and the layers of paint, collage work and zentangles that have gone in the making of the piece.
Maelstrom with its vortexes and butterflies, brings back to me memories of childhood, of sprinting through neck high grass chasing butterflies. It is chaotic, chaordic, loud and intricate all at once.
